Located on the shoreline of Mosman, homeland of the Borogegal People, Chowder Bay has become a popular waterfront retreat. Boasting charming restaurants and cafés, including Ripples, Drift Café and East Coast Lounge, Chowder Bay is situated along the scenic coastal walk between Taronga Zoo and Balmoral. Visitors can dive or snorkel at Chowder Bay to come face to face with local marine life or head to the netted beach at nearby Clifton Gardens for a swim. If you’d prefer to keep your head above water, you can kayak along the picturesque foreshore. Ensure you keep your eyes peeled for visiting penguins, seals and whales. Neighbouring areas can be reached via a network of scenic trails and roads, including the Bungaree Walkway. These include the other two precincts that makeup Mosman’s Headland Park – Georges Heights and Middle Head. Plus: On selected Sundays, the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) opens their Discovery Centre to the public. Set within Chowder Bay’s historic sandstone mine labs, the centre is a treasure trove for kids as well as marine life enthusiasts. Highlights include a virtual dive and a 3D model of Sydney Harbour.
