Explore the oldest operating roundhouse in NSW, with sights, sounds (and smells) of rail travel over 130 years! Enjoy 20 minute rides in the 1880s Sydney steam tramcar or a 1890 'Cowboy' carriage hauled by steam tank engine 'Stevo' or NEW in 2020 - 1960s diesel shunting loco X206. (See website for program). Read the fascinating story of the 'Call Boy'. Listen as 'Charlie' and 'Harry' prepare steam locomotive 5461 for work. View model railway layouts including a 5m long scale model of the Locomotive Depot in the 1950s. Climb aboard engines and carriages from many eras of rail across the Blue Mountains. See the remarkable 'Caves Express' and the 'Ice Van', carefully restored to their former glory, plus other wagons under restoration. Inspect rail artefacts, large and small, memorabilia and paintings. Children can absorb interesting facts from age-friendly signage while older ones can do the fascinating 10-question quiz. Check answers on the website and print a personalised certificate at home. Choose from the shop's books, DVDs and other unique souvenir items, then relax with a tea, barista coffee, cold drink or ice cream in the café. The museum is normally open on the second and fourth Sunday of every month.
