Ben Lomond National Park is an alpine plateau in northern Tasmania over 1500 metres high and visible from much of Tasmania's north. The park is the main downhill skiing field in Tasmania and a magnet for adventure seekers. Bennet's wallabies and wombats are common sights in the park and are seen regularly in the ski village during summer and winter. Drive to the summit and experience striking mountaintop features including dolerite columns and scree slopes. Rock climbing, alpine walking, cross-country and downhill skiing are the highlights of this national park. Jacobs Ladder, a steep and narrow section of road on the way up the mountain, will leave a lasting memory and demands great care, especially in winter conditions when chains should be carried. A ranger station at the foot of the mountain can advise on road conditions during winter. Ben Lomond National Park is a one-hour and 40-minute drive east of Launceston.
