You might have seen the sign on the Warrego Highway “There’s antiques down in Marburg” – but there’s also a classic Queenslander pub to be found at the heart of this country town.
The Marburg Pub has been in the Bowden family for many years. It was run for decades by a chap named Yub and was known as Yub’s Pub for a long time. His son, Dan, bought it 40 years ago and nowadays grandson Matt Bowden is at the helm.
The pub has recently undergone a makeover with a new coat of paint and Matt says weekend lunches have become particularly popular as the town becomes better known as a day trip or country road trip destination, a little more than an hour from Brisbane.
Takeaway lunches and dinners are also popular.
Matt says one of the great things about Marburg is that all the businesses work together to promote each other and the whole community.
And as for that Antique Shop – you’ll find Scotland Yard Antique right across the street! Also watch out for Soul Nook Collective in the old church and historic Woodlands of Marburg across the highway, the home of Tommy Smith Café.
