The Phillip Island Museum is operated by the Phillip Island and District Historical Society Inc and occupies a space within the Phillip Island Heritage Centre. The museum displays historical objects, photographs and information regarding Phillip Island and district. Themes covered are Indigenous history, early colonists, San Remo history, maritime history, the two bridges and the chicory industry. Extra temporary displays are changed approximately every three months. An up to date 15 minute history of Phillip Island DVD and touchscreen suitable for all ages is available to view in the museum, and also available for sale. A selection of local history books are also available for sale. The museum is attended by knowledgeable volunteers. A laptop with Wi-Fi is available for in-museum research, and the museum's reference collection may also be used. A museum detective sheet and touchscreen is available to assist children in exploring the museum. Groups including schools and tour groups are welcome outside normal visiting hours by arrangement and special presentations can also be organised. Normal hours are Thursdays and Saturdays 10:00am to 12:00pm and Tuesdays 10:00am to 12:00pm during Victorian school holidays. Entry charge is by gold coin donation, and children are free.
