A living treasure, Koonowla is one of the Clare Valley’s most delightful settings, a pioneering property steeped in drama-filled history, with inspiring stone buildings and lush gardens surrounded by gently rolling hillside vineyards.
A pioneering estate with vines first planted in 1896, the lovingly restored property just five kilometres east of Auburn lives and breathes the region’s winemaking traditions. Under the watchful eye of a new generation of custodianship of father and son Nick and Alexander George, Koonowla’s rich history is being brought to prominence through respectful restoration of its original landmark buildings and grounds, reinvigoration of its vineyards and reawakening the heritage-rich gravity fed winery.
Nick and son Alex wish to showcase the estate not just as a centre for great wine but as a welcoming venue for special occasions – weddings, anniversaries, community functions, corporate lunches – the opportunities are endless and the setting stunning.
With Koonowla’s Cellar Door scheduled to open in the heritage-rich gravity fed winery in October - COVID willing - a visit is a must.
