Humble House gallery is a must-see destination for lovers of authentic oriental antiques and contemporary art. Humble House spans two levels with over 600 square metres of display space featuring a museum, art gallery and showroom. The museum of 18th to early 20th century Chinese antique furniture is the only one of its type in Australia. The date-marked pieces are a timeline of the history and evolution of Chinese furniture. Cabinetmakers admire the furniture specially prepared to reveal the intricate handmade joinery highlighting the skill of traditional craftsmen. From the museum walk through to the spacious art gallery. Exhibitions change on a regular basis showcasing the rich diversity of talent by established and emerging artists from Canberra and the surrounding region, interstate and overseas. The showroom of antique furniture, original art and individual design decorator pieces is a dream come true when you’re looking for inspiration to personalise your home. There is also an extensive range of giftware. Individual and group bookings are available for museum tours and talks about Chinese furniture including its fascinating symbolism and influence on western furniture.
