Set amongst the towering gums and old-world charms of Old Petrie Town, Pine Rivers Heritage Museum explores the historic evolution of the district's character. They invite you to share in the stories of those who worked the land, braved the migration, drove the industry or simply lived within the ever-changing landscape. Best of all, entry is free! Learn about early timber-getters, experience an old school classroom, and glimpse into life before electricity in an original farm-workers cottage. The museum features: -a theatrette that surprisingly animates the history of the region; -one of Queensland’s earliest kit homes, produced in the 1890s; -artefacts uncovered at Camp Strathpine, a WWII military facility; -the Skyring Clock Collection, all skilfully hand-built by one man; -stories of early European settlement as told by direct descendants; -films about Normanby Rum, and the Australian Paper Mill. The museum also offers a diverse program of events and workshops throughout the year, so there is always something to captivate and delight. Keep a little piece of the past or present with you by visiting the museum shop. It features local history books and films, vintage games, and a curated range of handmade items by contemporary craftsmen.
