The ‘Imperial Egg Gallery’ boasts Australia’s largest collection of decorated egg art. Lovingly displayed at the Beaufort Motel, come and visit for a detailed ‘show and tell’. You can also park for free and have Devonshire Tea.
This global collection includes decorated eggs from sharks, emus, doves, quails, ostriches, and crocodiles. You will see Fusion egg art which is the joining of two or more egg types. Marvel over the eggstravaganza of indigenous art. You will wonder how on earth can they carve and/or decorate that little egg, without it breaking?
There really is an egglectic mix of traditional and modern.
Interested in history? View excellent replicas of the Faberge Egg (original eggs are valued at around $33 million). Late 1800’s Russian goldsmith, Peter Carl Faberge, was appointed by Royalty to make an Easter Egg for his Empress. Then war broke out, so the Faberge factory adapted by producing war equipment such as syringes and grenades. Fascinating!
Margaret, the owner, explains her Dad wrote from the war and told her about the beautiful pictures on eggs. When her son Peter (who runs the 10-room motel) was nine, his ‘eggcellent’ present was the start of the collection.
To come and view a scene from our past, a simple egg transformed into art, then this collection at the Beaufort Motel will forever remain in your heart.
